Angelina Jolie has not had the easiest of years. Since separating from long-time partner Brad Pitt in September of last year, she has had to deal with divorce proceedings, custody agreements, and reportedly health issues too.
Jolie first met Pitt on the set of the 2005 action thriller, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and they quickly entered into a rather illicit affair, while Pitt was then married to Jennifer Aniston. Their relationship remained an object of public scrutiny throughout the 12 years that they were together, and naturally their decision to divorce, only two years after they wed in 2014, caused a media frenzy. Jolie has remained quiet in the aftermath of the separation, having stated on multiple occasions that she wanted to take time to focus on herself and the couple’s six children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. However, the 42-year-old recently opened up to Vanity Fair and revealed what life has really been like in the aftermath of the divorce and how she has managed juggling being a single-mother with her career as an actress and director. Jolie also disclosed that she suffered a shock health-diagnosis when doctors informed her that she had developed Bell’s Palsy. In her first major interview since splitting from Brad Pitt in September, Jolie announced that she had been diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy – aform of facial paralysis which results in sufferers being unable to control their facial muscles on the affected side. She told the magazine that since the divorce she has been wholly invested in spending time with her children and managing her condition. Certainly this is not the only health concern that the actress has had of late. In addition to chronic high blood-pressure, Jolie underwent a double mastectomy in 2013 after learning that she is a carrier for a gene mutation which puts her at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer. She was very vocal about this surgery as well as the hysterectomy she had in 2015, as her mother, Marcheline Bertrand died from ovarian cancer at the age of 56. Jolie admitted that 2017 has been one of the toughest years yet: “Its just been the hardest time, and were just kind of coming up for air,” she said, before adding, “sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health.” However, the Oscar winner made it clear that she and her six children are currently in the throes of recovering from their personal trauma. She stated that acupuncture helped her recover from Bell’s Palsy and that despite her rocky health and a few extra grey hairs, she feels more like a woman than ever: I actually feel more of a woman because I feel like Im being smart about my choices, and Im putting my family first, and Im in charge of my life and my health. I thinkthatswhat makes a woman complete.
Theyve been very brave […] In times they needed to be “Theyre not healing from divorce. Theyre healing from some… from life, from things in life. Well, we wish Jolie and her children luck in this new chapter. And if you fancy catching up with Brad, he recently opened up about the divorce himself
