The exchange began innocently enough, with the woman saying she loved McConnell.
Thank you, he replied. I needed that.
But he wouldnt thank her for what she said next.Check it out:
The unidentified voter berated McConnell over jobs and health care, saying:
The last I heard, these coal jobs are not coming back and now these people dont have the insurance they need because theyre poor. And they work those coal mines, and theyre sick, the veterans are sick, the veterans are broken down, theyre not getting what they need.
Heres McConnells reaction:
If you can answer any of that, Ill sit down and shut up like Elizabeth Warren, she concluded.
She was referring to a procedural move McConnell used on the Senate floor earlier this month that silenced Sen. Warren(D-Mass) when she tried to read a letter critical of Jeff Sessions, the then-Alabama senator who is now U.S. attorney general.
For whatever reason, that line broke his poker face:
I hope you feel better now, he told her.
I do, she said. I do.
Anybody understood anything I had to say? he then asked the audience. He did not answer her question or many of the others posed to him at the event.
A reporter from local ABC station WHAS asked why he declined to respond.
Theres a difference between making a speech and asking questions, McConnell replied.
Earlier, McConnell had been greeted by about 1,000 protesters outside the event, a luncheon for the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce in Lawrenceburg, The Associated Press reported.
