Standing up for what’s right.
More than 50 retired generals and admirals from different branches of the U.S. military have spoken out against Donald Trump‘s decision to bar transgender Americans from serving in the armed forces. Specifically, the former military leaders criticized POTUS’ ruling and noted that, if implemented, the decision would have a negative impact on the military’s readiness.
“This proposed ban, if implemented, would cause significant disruptions, deprive the military of mission-critical talent, and compromise the integrity of transgender troops who would be forced to live a lie, as well as non-transgender peers who would be forced to choose between reporting their comrades or disobeying policy. As a result, the proposed ban would degrade readiness even more than the failed ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy.”
Hear! Hear! The letter didn’t stop there as the note added:
“Patriotic transgender Americans who are servingand who want to servemust not be dismissed, deprived of medically necessary health care, or forced to compromise their integrity or hide their identity.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. In case you forgot, the Trumpster alleged that having trans service people in the military “burdened” the U.S. as their medical costs were “tremendous.” This isn’t actually the case, especially since only a few skipped trips to Mar-a-Lago could help cover the trans soldiers’ health care.
Hopefully, the Commander-In-Chief will see this letter and reconsider his controversial decision. Fingers crossed.
